Background

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread throughout the United States, research has been ongoing to better understand the impacts of the virus on wastewater and the people operating collections systems and treatment facilities. Study has also begun to determine if wastewater surveillance of COVID-19 can be a beneficial tool to help manage the pandemic. The California Water Environment Association (CWEA) in conjunction with the California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA) has been hosting information sessions, summarizing COVID-19 information as it relates to wastewater. Speakers have included experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The University of Arizona, and the Water Environment Federation.
