Background

WHEREAS, David J. Slawson has served on the Board of Directors for Eastern Municipal Water District since 1995 and has recently completed his tenure as Board President from January 2017 through January 2019; and,

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure, President Slawson oversaw an agency that has been continually recognized as one of the leading water, wastewater, and recycled water agencies in both California and the United States; and,

 

WHEREAS, President Slawson’s tenure as Board President included the launch of EMWD’s Groundwater Reliability Plus program, which is a holistic approach to groundwater management, sustainability and public education that is designed to help EMWD provide long-term groundwater resources and water quality improvements for current and future customers; and,

 

WHEREAS, President Slawson oversaw the advancement of a number of District-wide investments that will provide long-term reductions in EMWD’s carbon footprint. Those investments include expanding the use of clean energy fleet vehicles, investments in additional solar energy, and the transition away from the use of chlorine gas at wastewater treatment facilities; and,

 

WHEREAS, President Slawson’s direction was instrumental in helping EMWD achieve and maintain a AAA credit rating, and the transition to a modernized billing methodology that will further promote water use efficiency for years to come; and,

 

WHEREAS, EMWD received a J.D. Power and Associates Award for Customer Satisfaction after a national survey found that EMWD ranked highest among water agencies in the Western United States and had the highest ranking customer communications efforts of any agency nationally; and,

 

WHEREAS, EMWD was also recognized for its work in recycled water and for other initiatives that have resulted in long-term sustained water use efficiency standards.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Directors of Eastern Municipal Water District appreciate David J. Slawson’s leadership during his tenure as President of the Board of Directors.
